Carmel Dodson Brown, Associate
Carmel has worked in the NHS most of her life. With a background as a nurse, she specialises in clinical governance and patient safety and has both commissioned and led many independent investigations.
 
She has worked for national agencies, including the National Patient Safety Agency, strategic health authorities as well as provider organisations.
 
Carmel’s experience includes acute, mental health, community trusts
and at Clinical Commissioning Groups.
 
Carmel has a Masters in Risk Management from the University of London. More recently Carmel has studied 'Understanding Human Performance at the Cranfield Business School as well as Human Factors at Oxford University.

Carmel has also worked independently on:
  • Corporate Governance - Reviewed and updated Board Assurance Framework - linked to Corporate Risk Register, fed by Divisional Risk registers. Drafted and implemented Risk Management Framework. Implemented Quality Assurance methodology for Serious Incident investigation reports. Well Led gap analysis, Non-executive risk management training. 
  • Lead multiple serious incident investigations - including those reportable to the CQC.
  • Participated in Fitness to practice review - Consultant surgeon.
  • CQC inspections- completed Provider Information Requests (PIRs), identified gaps to be addressed, supported and monitored implementation of action plans.
